What is Botox® Cosmetic?
Introduced in 2002, Botox® Cosmetic is the first botulinum toxin that is FDA-approved to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles – especially those found between the eyebrows. Botox® Cosmetic is a prescription medication that is injected into facial muscles specifically targeted by your provider for treatment. Botox® is only recommended for patients aged 18-65 years old. It is important to note that while Botox® is only a temporary treatment, it is long-lasting and is a simple, affordable, nonsurgical way to improve your appearance and eliminate signs of aging.
What kinds of wrinkles does Botox® Cosmetic treat?
Botox® Cosmetic is clinically proven to be safe, is approved by the FDA to treat unwanted so-called dynamic wrinkles of the face. Dynamic wrinkles include both fine and deep forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, and the lines between the eyebrows. Botox® Cosmetic can also be an effective method to raise the arch of the eyebrow and lift the corners of the mouth.
How does Botox® Cosmetic work?
Botox® is an injectable, prescription medication that works by blocking muscle nerve signals to the injection site – commonly the facial muscles. The affects of the medication temporarily reduces muscle activity which is responsible for excess furrowing and frowning, acts that in turn lead to noticeable lines and wrinkles.
What results are typically seen after receiving Botox® Cosmetic injections?
Botox® Cosmetic provides noticeable, long-lasting, results without surgery and with zero recovery time. Within days of treatment you should see an improvement in the frown lines between your eyebrows or other injection sites. Fine lines and wrinkles will continue to improve for up to 30 days. While individual results may vary, results typically last for up to 4 months.

Important information regarding the use of any botulinum toxin:
Botox® Cosmetic contains botulinum toxins that may spread from the injection site to other parts of the body. Although rare in cosmetic use, this phenomenon may cause muscle weakness, blurred vision, urinary incontinence and difficulties in breathing and swallowing. Difficulties breathing and swallowing can be life-threatening conditions and patients experiencing these symptoms should seek immediate medical assistance.
